What is a Clothes Closet?
A clothes closet is a ministry to those who, for whatever reason, need clothing. In some cases, this help allows them to purchase food and pay other bills to sustain their lives and their integrity. Clothing items will be given away for FREE to all who come. It is our hope to be a good neighbor to those in our community.
Who Needs Such a Ministry?
Often it is a ministry to the poor and homeless; however, such a ministry might touch many others. Individuals and families struck by loss of employment or disaster (fire, flood, etc.) often need help. Residents of our local Ashland Care Center receive clothes. Young families growing through sizes bring the clothes outgrown and take home ones that fit. Monthly, around 100 individuals come and get new clothes for free!
What Can You Do?
Clean good condition clothing can be brought to American Lutheran Church. The church is open every weekday morning from 8:00am – noon or from 9:00am – noon on Sunday. Outside of office hours, there is a blue bin in the southwest corner of the parking lot. If the bin is full or the drop off time doesn’t work for your schedule, please contact the church office at 944.3535 and someone will pick up your donation.
We are also looking for volunteers to help sort clothing, transfer clothes from the bin to the basement, and be present during our hours of operation. If you are interested in volunteering, please call the church office at 944.3535 or Nicole at 944.3970.
When is it?
The Closet is open to the public every second Wednesday of the month, 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and the following Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – Noon. Bags are provided, but if you have totes or other means of collecting items, bring them with you. All are Welcome!
